The Oregon chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) presented Tom an Award of Merit in the News Release category at its annual Spotlight Awards in 2022. It was the highest award presented in that category that year.
The Oregon chapter of PRSA selected Tom as the recipient of the Olga M. Haley Mentorship Award in 2015. According to the chapter’s web site, “This award reflects our chapter’s dedication to supporting members at every stage of their careers and lives.” It was only the second time this relatively new annual award was ever presented. Tom was inducted into the PRSA College of Fellows at a ceremony October 2012 in San Francisco. This is a status held by less than two percent of the organization’s 21,000 members. Click here to watch a short video of that presentation.
Tom received the annual William Marsh Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011 from the Oregon chapter of PRSA. It is the chapter’s highest honor. Click here to view the video about Tom that was shown at the awards ceremony.
Tom received the Rodney Adair Award in 2004 from the Oregon-Columbia chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators. It is the chapter’s highest honor.
During his career in Los Angeles and Portland, Ore., Tom has won about 30 local, regional and national awards in news writing, creative writing, speech writing, newsletters, communications research and public speaking from the following organizations:
